Abuse: Causing or attempting to cause physical
harm or placing an elderly or disabled adult in fear of imminent physical
harm.
Neglect: failure by a caretaker to provide habilitation, care, clothing,
shelter, nutrition and medical care; failure by an adult to provide
these for him/herself.
Exploitation: unjust or improper use of an elderly or disabled adults
assets and resources
Elder: a person who is 65 years of age or older
Disabled adult: a person who is 18 years of age or older who is
impaired because of mental illness, mental deficiency, physical illness
or disability to the extent that he/she is unable to care for his/her
own personal safety and provide necessities such as food, shelter,
clothing or medical care.
